Black Friday

Living in a small town in Costa Rica, if I wanted to, I could probably pretend that the holidays aren’t already here.

First off, it’s HOT and sunny.  Hot — in the 90’s hot.  These temps don’t exactly inspire visions of roasting chestnuts over an open fire … more like just roasting in your own skin kinda’ visions.

Also, my mailbox isn’t littered with full page color ads of holiday shopping deals (mailbox?… What mailbox?? Oh yeah, I don’t even have a mailbox!),

I don’t hear Jingle Bells inside the grocery store.

My co-workers aren’t decked out wearing sweatshirts emblazoned with Santa-Kitty and my boss doesn’t wear a tie that plays “Here Comes Santa Claus” all day long (I really did have a boss who wore one).

But you know, there are things I do miss about the holidays.

I miss Thanksgiving dinner and my mom’s fantabulous cranberry mold!  I especially miss the leftovers!!

I won’t lie and say I don’t miss the huge tins of popcorn that my clients used to send me tempting me with three kinds of popcorn – cheese, caramel and butter.  Yum.

I miss going to buy a Christmas tree at Home Depot with my daughter the first week of December and then trying to decide what theme/color we’d decorate the tree.

And of course the extra days off work weren’t all that bad either.

So as I sit here, daydreaming under the hot, tropical sunshine, getting ready to start my 5th (!!) season in my boutique here in Costa Rica, I’d like start the season in traditional fashion — with a Black Friday sale – ((no stampedes please!!))
