Arrived late last night in LA to visit the folks after nearly 2 1/2 years away. I’ll only be here for a short visit. Spend a lil’ time with my family, do some much needed shopping stock-ups, and of course EAT!!!
My arrival was awesome because I didn’t tell my Mom I was coming. Her and I chat on the phone almost everyday, but again, it’s been 2 1/2 years since we’ve had a hug. My stepdad, daughter and I all planned the trip without her knowing. Dad got her to take the week off work by telling her he was whisking her away on a mini-vacation for a few days. So she woke up this morning thinking that was the plan. When she walked out for morning coffee, I was on the couch and said “I was in the neighborhood and thought I’d pop by!” Her reaction was priceless. A mix of complete shock, tears, laughter and bear hugs!! Awww my mommy!!!
After the shock wore off a bit, she asked “So what would you like to do today?” My reply was “EAT THAI FOOD!!” I love Thai food, especially pad thai. There are a handful of restaurants in Costa Rica that claim they serve Thai food, but it is always missing at least 10 necessary ingredients to make it taste edible. Thus, I gave up on even ordering these dishes long ago. Just too disappointing.
My parents have this great little spot not too far from their house that has some of the best Thai I’ve had, so mom and I zipped over there and had lunch. Pad thai, brown rice and hot jasmine tea. Not a bad first day of vacation!!
Next stop, INDIAN FOOD. Yiipppeeee.
