I did the make-up for a wedding over the weekend in beautiful Playa Conchal. Afterwards, I was sitting in the lobby of the resort waiting for my cab, watching the flow of people arriving in shuttles and taxis from the airport.
I love to see that look of anticipation on their face. They’ve never been here. They don’t know what to expect. Everything is new. They’re pale (hahaha) and looking forward to a suntan. I thought to myself how long it’s been since I’ve been the traveler, arriving from my day-to-day life to a strange place, with that excited, butterflies-in-my-tummy feeling.
I used to arrive here with that feeling, and it’s funny how this place that was once new and exciting has now become home. I sat there reminding myself how much money these folks are paying to be here and I get to enjoy it for free everyday.
Sigh.
I’d like a vacation. To get on a plane and go someplace unknown. Try food I’ve never tried. Drink a beer I’ve never tasted. Lay on a deserted beach with a book and a cocktail, napping, having a relaxing conversation with someone.
Soon.
