Those of you who’ve been following Urban Eclectic Jewelry since the beginning, know that it began with big, chunky, wire wrapped designs.
Over the years, as my own personal style changed, so did my designs. In early 2012, I started experimenting with sheet metal and slowly my designs evolved and morphed into a completely new line of accessories. I’ve still made some of the chunkier designs here and there, but it’s been a l-o-n-g time since I’ve invested some time to create an entire collection reminiscent of those original designs.
Every season I get travelers who come through the shop that visited the shop early on and they always inquire about those chunkier designs. So as this season came to an end, I thought to myself that maybe it’s long overdue to create whole new collection of “The Classics“.
For nearly 8 weeks I worked on nothing but those old-school designs. I felt rusty and it took making a few pieces to get back in touch with that style. I’d forgotten how much more manual labor goes into pounding, twisting and wrapping wire around itself, as opposed to cutting, pounding, buffing and drawing out the etching designs on sheet metal. After weeks of work I had collection that I was happy about and callouses on my hands that would make a carpenter look twice!
I sent out an e-mailer to those on my mailing list and was so happy with the response that I got. People e-mailing me telling me they’d missed those designs and that they were pleased they were making a comeback. I feel like I’ve reconnected with a piece of my artistic past.
