Hot Off My Workbench

This past week has been a whirlwind of production – trying to refill the shop before the end of the month when our high season officially begins.  Although, this past week I’d have to say the season has already started.  Normally in early November, Tamarindo is still pretty much a ghost town, but there’s a been a steady flow of people wandering around.

After a nearly 2 month break from creating any new designs, I gotta’ say, it’s been awesome to crank out some new lil’ lovlies.

Hustling, hustling.  Come late next week I need to turn my attention to getting all this new stuff up on the website for holiday sales!!  Maybe this year Santa will send me a little elf to help out!!  🙂

It’s All Coming Along

I must say, I’m pretty happy with how the shop is shaping up.  I opened it a little over 6 years ago and it’s amazing how much my tastes and styling preferences have changed in that time.  In many ways, as much as I loved my shop before, I had grown tired of the colors and designs.  It didn’t feel like “me” anymore.  A lot of that is attributed to how much my jewelry has evolved over the years.  My designs are lighter, drapier, more geometric, so the shop’s new cleaner design and lighter colors feel more on point.

I love using all the driftwood and beach treasures that I’ve collected over the years from beaches all over both coasts of Costa Rica.  I painted little geometric patterns on them and I think it really gives them a little something extra.

 

Back at it!!

Today was my first full day back in the shop makin’ stuff.  The new workspace feels AWESOME.  I love the white walls and how much light it brings to my space.  Definitely makes a huge difference.

When I was in LA, I finally bought a hard cover sketch book that’s small enough to shove into my bag.  I’m going to try to be better about jotting down ideas in this trusty lil’ book rather than on the back of grocery receipts — which I usually tend to do.  Doesn’t work out so well that way as far as keeping ideas organized or easy to find.

I started a production of etched brass and copper goodies which I’ll hopefully finish up tomorrow.

Shop Remodel Finally Done

A little over a month later and the shop is all done.  What a difference a lil’ white paint and new floor can make!!  Still need to do a few minor touch-ups here and there, but overall, it’s ready.

Yesterday afternoon, I sat down at my (new) workspace and started on the production to refill the shop.  It’s the first time since the first week of September that I’ve had time to be creative.  All of September was spent filling orders from the clearance sale (thankful for that!).  October was spent doing the shop and traveling.  So yesterday I sat down, everything new and fresh and started up.

On Monday, I have a photo shoot for a wedding blog.  I’m not only doing the model’s make-up, but also providing jewelry for the bohemian wedding themed shoot.  I’m super excited about that since I’ve been wanting to bridge the gap between my two businesses.  This seems like the perfect step in that direction.
