I tend to take waayyy too many photos. It’s a definite benefit of the invention of digital cameras — you get instant gratification, plus you don’t have to pay those pesky printing fees for a bunch of photos you don’t even want! However, I take so many photos of the beach, my dogs, my work, etc., and just keep storing them on my drive — so I’m attempting to go back through and sort them a bit by date, subject matter, etc. Let’s start with SUNSETS!!! 🙂
Yesterday evening I was sitting on the beach watching the sunset — of course — taking photos. The rainy season is just about over and that has a huge effect on the sunset. Besides the fact that everything grows lush with the rain, one of the best benefits of the rainy season are the fantastic sunsets. One would think that the rain would ruin the sunsets, but actually, the moisture in the air creates a spectacular display of colors and shapes. If it’s stormy and cloudy – the sunset is gray, blue and moody. If it’s clear, the clouds turn anything from deep orange to dark purple. Once the rain stops completely, sadly to say, the sun just sets without all the colors — it just goes down. Boo.
So I decided to go back through my bazillion photos that I’ve taken of the sunset since the rain started in April and find some of the best ones. Good grief is it hard to pick!!
Here are some of my favorites from the sunny days. When I sit there on the beach, I just feel so overwhelmed with how lucky I am to have this in my front yard every day.
And here are some of the cloudy, moody sunsets.
I especially love it when you can see the storm traveling across the horizon. Yikes, I’d hate to be in a boat in the middle of that!!
Within a few weeks, the sunsets will be totally different and (hate to say it) usually uneventful. But don’t get me wrong!! I’m still very appreciative of getting to sit on the beach and watch it set. Some people live places where they never see the sunset, so I won’t complain.
