The last time I was in LA (over 2 years ago!) my parent’s neighbor (who is a gemologists) gave me two pieces of rough quartz as a gift. At the time I was making much chunkier, rugged pieces and couldn’t see a way to integrate them into anything I was making. However, this past year or so my designs have really changed a lot. I’ve been using primarily sheet metal, chain and leather and have been making things that I just LOVE!!
A few weeks ago, I was cleaning out my stash of supplies and came across the quartz – which I had long ago forgotten about. Now it goes with the designs I’m making. I created an etched silver necklace and suspended the wire wrapped the quartz below. It sold in the shop right away.
I still have one more piece left and tried to find more here in the capital (the only place one might be lucky enough to come across any sort of supplies), but didn’t have any luck. I’m super excited about my upcoming LA trip in October. Not just to see my folks, but to SHOP for more quartz and I really want to get my hands on some rough amethyst. It feels like forever since I’ve had an opportunity to shop for jewelry components and embellishments in a place that had any variety. Well…it has been over 2 years!!
