I came across a documentary the other day on Netflix named “Advanced Style” which caught my eye because of the eccentric looking red headed old woman gracing the cover. Intrigued, I clicked to read the bio.
The film is about a photographer named Ari Seth Cohen who documents and photographs older, stylish women in New York.
I love older people! Many of my closest friends in life have been people 30+ years older than myself. I love their wisdom, their perspective and their stories. I love it that they’ve experienced living in a different world than I live in now, full of different social rules (especially for women!), different opportunities, and different outlooks.
I admire women who can say “fuck you” to a society that punishes them for doing what every single person given the chance does — ages.
I wonder — why do women lose their sense of style as they age? You see photos of super stylish women from these great fashion decades and then you see them trotting down the street 30 years later looking like…..like a grandma. What happens in those years that causes this transformation?
Advanced Style also has a blog and is on Instagram. And if you can’t view the film, at least watch the trailer for the film, these ladies are amazing!
